I have Multiple Sclerosis (MS), a chronic neurological condition that affects the central nervous system. I was twenty years old when I was diagnosed, and it was very overwhelming to be told that I had a chronic disabling condition for which there was no known cause or cure. I was not told at that time that there was much of anything I could do for myself, beyond getting adequate rest and eating well. For the next four years, had numerous exacerbations (flare ups and worsenings) of the disease and many hospitalizations. In 1984, I was told of the New Life Center. I met with Loretta Levitz and decided to become a client there, when she told me she had helped others with MS. I am very glad I decided to become a client of the New Life Center. I was given sound nutritional advice as well as advice and instruction on adaptive exercise. When I first became a client, I could barely pick up my feet when I walked, had numerous problems with my back, including extreme weakness and chronic back spasms.

I had chronic, debilitating fatigue. I worked really hard as a client and I saw results in a fairly short time. I was able to go back to college, had much less pain and discomfort, the digestive ailments I had for years weren’t bothering me as much, and I had a lot more energy and the quality of my life was vastly improved. I was a client for a number of years, and I got consistently stronger and fit as time went on. I am very grateful for the help I received at the New Life Center; it was thorough, comprehensive and very practical and useful. Most of all, it was given in a very kind, compassionate, knowledgeable and understanding manner. Today, I feel I have been given a new lease on life. I work in human services, am very active in my community and take classes. I have benefited greatly from working with the New Life Center and I encourage anyone interested in improving their health to look into the New Life Center. I have truly been given a new life.

I had a stroke in 1971 and lost the use of the left side of my body. I began working with the New Life Center in 1983. In three months, I was able to open my left hand completely. My left hand had been tightly closed before this. In four months, I was able to raise my arm above shoulder level. I couldn't raise it at all before.

I am developing muscles in my left arm, shoulders, and back. I am able to do more things for myself. After less than a year with the New Life Center, my doctor told me to throw away my brace, since my "sleepy" leg was functioning so well.

I have a chronic illness, Sarcoidosis. It was active from 1979 to 1983. When it was active, it affected my respiratory system, I could not breathe on my own, and I was dependent on portable oxygen. It affected my optical nerves and I was blind. It affected my central nervous system, I had limited physical control, and I went from a wheelchair to crutches. I was in terrible pain, I had severe headaches, and I could no longer work (I was a machinist). I was given prednisone to treat the sarcoid and some of my symptoms subsided. As a result of the prednisone treatment, I developed diabetes, avascular necrosis, cushing syndrome, difficulty clotting, and prednisone dependency. I had a hip replaced in 1981.

With the New Life Center as my guide, I changed my diet, learned to breathe properly, began a modest yoga program, and had holistic therapies( acupuncture, chiropractic, polarity, and massage). Within two years I was medication free, free of pain, and partially ambulatory (I used a cane). I began to plan for my future and enrolled in college. In 1986, I graduated from college and entered the workforce full time as a teacher.

We are in a new millennium. My sarcoid has been in remission for 19 years. I'm still teaching and I have a physically active life. I enjoy hiking, camping, and biking. I was given such a poor prognosis at the time of my referral to the New Life Center, that my accomplishments seemed impossible. I had to work very hard for my recovery. The New Life Center gave me the tools that I needed to reclaim my life.

The New Life Center guided me through a dark tunnel of sickness, pain, and despair to the prosperous road of good health and awareness.

At the age of 29, I was working as a registered nurse and as a result of moving patients and equipment found myself with excruciating back pain. I belonged to an HMO where I was advised to go home for 20 hours of bedrest per day.

Six months later, I was still trying to live with immobilizing back pain. In the end the medical doctors said they had nothing to offer me, and that I should "Just live with the pain." I was stunned and disappointed.

At this time, I was also diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, and put on steriods. I could barely walk. The physical therapist gave me weights for my legs to increase my strength, but this only increased the pain. At this time I tried chiropractic and The New Life Center program. I found NLC to be direct, honest, caring, and firm in the fact that healing my body would take time, perseverance, and hard work.

Through this program I got back my self respect. I am the mother of three children. I am working, free of pain, and in complete remission. NLC is truly a healing center.

"It scares me to think what my life would be like today if I hadn't gone to that talk on Ayurveda."

Looking back on it, I know now I felt nothing but terror during those days. Today I still have some mild muscle cramps to remind me that I was diagnosed with Lupus and polymyositis. But today I have my life back. Seeing me, people think I am in perfect health.

After attending a talk at the Boston Expo in 1987, I knew right off that Ayurveda would help with some really distressing gastrointestinal problems I had experienced for years. A week later I called for an appointment. My plan made sense and was appealing. When I started the pain was so bad, I could hardly walk. I crawled to the bathroom on all fours.

I had little signs along the way that things were progressing for me, "Little Victories." I learned to meditate. Just one year after my diagnosis, In November 1988, my blood tests came back normal. I feel that I was very lucky to find a whole life program that is supportive, structured, and healing.

Thank you for all your help with my back and neck problems. I tried so many approaches (bed rest, corset, chiropractic, aspirin, heat, ice, massage, etc.) but yoga is the only approach which purely helped me without bad effects.

When I first came to you, pain governed my life. I couldn't move without pain. I couldn't sit at all, I walked at a turtle's pace. I spent my days lying down. When I started your exercises, I could barely move, but you repeated a number of principles which eventually worked: Don't push, Stop before you feel pain, and Do the deep breathing with each stretch.

I learned to eliminate sugar and refined food then I added muscular therapy to my program. Finally, I added strengthening exercises after stretching. Progress was slow but steady. I am now dancing competitively and loving it. Thank you again!
